Personal Backup with Mozy

Relatively speaking, I’ve been one lucky computer user.  I’ve never had a hard drive fail here at the house.  I’ve never accidentally deleted something vital.  I even believed in the annual-reimage.  As far as losing data I’ve never really lost anything I cared that much about.  For that reason, I’m only now looking at a serious backup “strategy”.  I put “strategy” in quotes, because DVD’s and CD’s do not suffice as a strategy.  It’s a good step that should be used in a strategy, but by itself you do not have a strategy.

Now that more than just I rely on our financial data being in order (I’m a huge Quicken believer) and we have more pictures of our 3 month old sun than the previous 28 years of our lives combined I have a vested interest in not losing it all.

I’ve been mulling my options now for about 3 or 4 months; playing with different tools like Jungle Disk, Vista Backup and Restore, Windows Home Server, Mozy, and several others.
